Business meeting and embassy reception on the Day of German Unity
locational advantages in MV attractive for Swiss entrepreneurs
Wednesday, September 26, 2017
The state economic development company Invest in MV, together with the entrepreneurs association for Vorpommern (Unternehmerverband Vorpommern) is inviting people to attend an investor meeting for Swiss companies in Bern on Monday, October 2, 2017. Around 30 medium-sized enterprises are expected to attend the business meeting, which State Secretary of Economics Dr. Stefan Rudolph will also be participating in. The aim of these events is to continue to promote Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as a place where expansion-oriented Swiss companies can do business. On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, Invest in MV will be represented by an investor lounge at the official reception at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Switzerland on the Day of German Unity. The German federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a partner of the event this year.
The starting point of the "location offensive MV" in Switzerland was the settlement of the food manufacturer Nestlé in Schwerin in 2012, which made the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern very well known in the Helvetic Republic. Since 2015, Invest in MV has visited or organized more than a dozen events, trade fairs and congresses in Switzerland and has contacted around 6,100 companies.
Two major Swiss business expansions to the north-eastern federal state were successfully completed last year– including the medical technology group Ypsomed, which set up a new production plant in Schwerin, and the HAAG-STREIT Group, which has entered into a partnership with ml&s, the electronics service provider based in Greifswald. More than €100 million will be invested in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern thanks to these two projects. This will create more than 200 new permanent jobs. Besides 6 already successfully implemented projects with Swiss companies, Invest in MV currently has 20 more projects in the pipeline.
In view of the continuing interest of Swiss companies in the investment opportunities and locations that MV has to offer them, the state economic development corporation will continue to promote marketing in Switzerland in the future. Under the title "We are writing success stories", for example, potential Swiss investors, among others, present reports on their experience at first hand.
"Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is still a highly attractive market for Swiss investors. The availability of space, its proximity to the German markets within the Eurozone, the potential of skilled workers, existing clusters and the excellent location from a logistics point of view are all good reasons for investors to consider expanding northwards," explained Michael Sturm, Managing Director of Invest in MV GmbH, in the run-up to the event. "Current settlements, such as the company Ypsomed in Schwerin, show that we are on the right track with this strategy."
